Raymond Arnold wins the 2017 Glover Prize

We warmly congratulate Raymond Arnold on winning the 2017 Glover Prize. 

The artist’s painting, titled La Barque de Dante/Macquarie Harbour Party Barge, was unanimously selected as the winning entry by judges Ben Quilty and Eleonora Triguboff and Dr Mary Knights.

The artist wrote about his winning work: “My dream of the ghost ship, the ship of ghosts Delacroix’s ‘breakthrough’ painting and a Situationist ‘switch’ Détournement - Departed souls crossing the Styx.”

Renowned Australian printmaker Raymond Arnold’s work has been featured in several significant group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra including ‘Pre-settlement to present’ in 1989, ‘My head is a Map – Prints of the Decade’ in 1992 and ‘Federation: Australian Art and Society 1901-2001’. Arnold has completed commissions for both the National Gallery of Australia and the Print Council of Australia and was awarded an Australia Council Fellowship in 1992. His work is represented by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane; the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Tasmania; the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart; Parliament House, Canberra; Artbank, Sydney and numerous Regional gallery collections including Ballarat, Burnie, Mornington, Newcastle, Shepparton, Warrnambool, Wollongong, Monash University and the University of Tasmania. His work is featured prominently in Roger Butler’s ‘Australian Prints’ published by the National Gallery of Australia.

The artist is represented by the Australian Galleries (Melbourne and Sydney) and Bett Gallery (Hobart).
